Recent reports indicate that Apple plans significant camera enhancements for its iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models this fall, while the iPhone 17 Air may see a reduction in features. Leaker Jon Prosser recently revealed new software functions exclusive to these upcoming Pro models within the native Camera app.

In his latest video preview of iOS 19’s redesigned interface—one of the most detailed previews yet—Prosser shared an exciting update regarding both iOS 19 and Apple's iPhone 17 series: The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will support simultaneous front-and-back camera recording within their native Camera app.

Simulations in his video demonstrate a user interface resembling FaceTime calls, with the majority of the screen displaying footage from the rear lens alongside smaller previews of the front-facing one.

Although multi-lens recordings have been achievable through third-party apps on iPhones for several years, Apple has not previously integrated this functionality into its native Camera app.

This new feature would be particularly beneficial to YouTubers and other video creators but will remain exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models—a potential disappointment for users who currently utilize third-party apps to achieve similar results. The requirement may stem from the A19 Pro chip, exclusively available in the Pro series; standard A19 chips might lack the necessary processing capabilities or Apple could have implemented unique proprietary processing techniques not yet replicated by third parties. Ultimately, this feature may serve as another incentive for users to upgrade to one of these premium models.
